- 2007-01-05 - angie and holly say that I can hire as many graders as I want. I need to contact shirley finke asking for how much I can pay, what accounts it comes from. I shoould have information as to hao many people are going to be in the class. There are no restrictions as to what I can post. I should email holly when we hire a grader, and finke will control how the grader gets paid.
2007-01-10: Herzog
As you may know from past semesters, the Computer Science Department has
a modest budget for hiring graders for courses offered by the
department. If you would like to hire a grader for your course this
semester, we ask that you please submit an estimate of how much grader
money you think your course will need (# of graders x # of hours of work
x $/hour). We need a budget so the department can predict how much
money to set aside for the semester.
Specify whether the grader you intend to hire is a graduate or an
undergraduate and whether the grader has previous experience or not. If
you don't have a specific person (or persons) in mind yet, please give
me a range based on the pay scale below.
Pay scale:
Graders in any one course should be paid approximately the same amount,
with differentials for greater experience, etc. Graders with no
experience should be paid at the lower end of the scale (this leaves
room to acknowledge graders with more experience and to provide for
merit pay increases). Paying graders at the highest end of the scale
for 400-level classes should be justified (e.g. the grader has
substantial experience and/or the work is particularly difficult). The
hourly wages should fall in these ranges:
100-level classes: $6.70 - $7.25
200-level classes: $6.70 - $8.25
400-level classes: $7.25 - $10.30
You may pay as much as $2.00/hour above the highest wage per level for a
graduate student -- but only for a GRADUATE STUDENT. Please be
judicious using this increment.
Graders should work no more than 10 hours per week.
Lab/Studio Aides - $7.25 - $10.60/hr
Lab or studio aide positions will apply on a very limited number of
courses. Hiring justification from the applicable professor and
Business Office approval will be required.
Once you have hired a grader (or aide), please send him/her to Shirley
Finke (
finke@uiuc.edu) to be entered into the payroll system. And
please remind your graders to get their time sheets in on time!
If you have any questions, let me know.
