Your closest train is the 96th St. stop on the 1, 2, and 3 trains (red). (1 runs local, 2 and 3 run express.) NYU is downtown -- our closest stops are West 4th on the A, C, E (blue), F, and V (orange) trains; or 8th St NYU on the R, W (yellow) trains. [For your interest, I live on the Fort Hamilton Parkway stop out in Brooklyn, on the F train, south of Prospect Park].

It is almost exactly 30 minutes from W 96th St. to NYU. To get from where you are to where I am, you take a 1, 2, or 3 train downtown to Time Square 42nd St., and switch to an R or W train (do NOT take an N or Q train, as those run express past the NYU stop). Take the R or W to 8th St NYU stop. I would probably have you call before you enter the subway, and when you arrive so I can pick you up.

If you think riding the subway solo is too stressful, I can come up to drop off guide books etc., but absolutely have to leave by 5, and ideally by 4:30, to get back to NYU to help prepare for an event that my colleagues and I have organized.
